An outdoor furniture umbrella can really bring your garden to life. You can find them in a variety of different shades and styles so if you love color you may want to buy the brightest on the market. If you buy the portable variety you will need to fill the base up with sand or a similar substance in order to prevent the wind blowing them over. Don’t be tempted to use anything other than shop bought sand. The beach variety may look clean but you never know what bacteria may be present. This is especially important if you have children.
If you buy a wooden outdoor furniture umbrella and have pets you will have to go through a training exercise to prevent the dog using this as his favorite toilet or the cat using the wood as a scratch mat. There are ways to prevent animals getting up on the patio furniture. If you are having problems speak to your vet.
Always protect your patio furniture from the extremes of weather. Obviously they are styled to be used outdoors but this doesn’t mean that you don’t need to look after them. A regular clean will save you a lot of work later on but pay attention to the instructions as not all cleaning solutions can be used. Some patio units will have to be prepared before you can use them outdoors but most are ready to use straight out of the box.
Check your patio umbrella to see if it does offer UVA protection – don’t just assume it does. The more expensive makes probably do but it is best to check. You still need to apply sunscreen if you are sitting outdoors under your new outdoor furniture umbrella. Enjoy your new accessory and make the most of the outdoor space.
