This makes it really difficult to communicate with them about different aspects of various styles or reviews of new upcoming products. If you fall into this category, it may be to your benefit to learn more soon. After all, you wouldn’t want to be with a salesperson who’s talking over your head about an expensive product that you’re considering.

FinialThe word finial describes the decorative top of the umbrella. This is there purely for aesthetics, and doesn’t determine any functionality whatsoever.

CanopyThis refers to the upper part of the patio umbrella and encompasses the umbrella fabric, any wind vents, and rib pockets, each of which has a specific function.

Wind VentsWind vents are critical components of the patio umbrella and ensure that it works correctly. They’re the little openings at the top of the canopy, and they serve two functions. basically, they let air flow through the umbrella instead of getting caught underneath. This ensures that the whole patio umbrella doesn’t simply blow away. In addition, this makes sure that heat doesn’t get trapped in the umbrella. Remember, hot air rises, so having vents at the top means it can keep rising away from you, letting you feel cool and shaded.

FabricThe fabric used for the canopy will play a large role in determining just how effective it is at keeping out the sun’s rays. In addition, different fabrics protect colors more strongly than others. These days, most fabrics for patio umbrellas are made from synthetic fibers to provide good protection from the elements and durability.

RibsThere are two kinds of ribs in your typical patio umbrella – center ribs and outside ribs. The center ribs are what extend from the umbrella pole, specifically from the hub. The outside ribs run along the fabric itself and ensure that the umbrella keeps its shape when extended. The ribs are most often made from the same material as the pole, but sometimes are replaced by fiberglass for high wind resistance.

Hub and RunnerThe hub is where the ribs attach to the pole. Its function is to slide up and down the central pole when the umbrella is extended or contracted. Because the center ribs are attached to this piece, moving the hub will open or close the umbrella. The runner is the device which pushes the hub and forces it to move.

TiltTilt functionality isn’t included in every patio umbrella, but if yours has one its likely right underneath the hub and runner. This will change the tilt of the umbrella so that you can better direct it to ward off the sun.

CrankAt the center of the central pole is a device for opening and closing the patio umbrella. This is typically a turnable crank, especially on aluminum models. On wooden models you may find a pulley and rope setup instead, but it serves the same function.

Central PoleThe central pole is what holds the entire patio umbrella together. This can be made of either wood or aluminum. Wood has a more classic look, but is less durable and strong than its metal counterpart. Choosing the right material for you depends on your specific setup and patio design. Aluminum can always be finished in different colors to match your chosen style.

BaseThe base (or stand) is at the bottom of the umbrella and is the most critical functional component of the entire thing. Choosing the right base is critical because of weight concerns. If the base is too light, the patio umbrella could fall during a strong gust of wind, or even under its own weight. Always err on the heavier side when choosing a base.

Choosing the Right Patio Umbrella Fabric

garden design

Canopy

Cream Of The Crop

Fabrics

Good Solution

High Risk

Job

Mildew Resistance

Misery

Mold And Mildew

Olefin

Patio Umbrella

Patio Umbrellas

Polyester

Shoulders

Stain Resistance

Synthetic Fabric

Synthetic Material

Synthetics

Umbrella Fabric

Uv Radiation
<guid

This piece is much more than mere decoration. It has practical aspects as well. When choosing fabrics, it’s never a good idea to just shrug your shoulders, or pick the one that ‘looks right.’ That road leads to future misery as your umbrella fails to meet you needs. Here are a few questions you should ask yourself to determine what you’ll need:

1) Do you burn easily under the sun? If you have fair skin, it’s important to check how much UV radiation the fabric actually blocks.

2) Is your home located in a damp area that has a high risk of mold and mildew? Different fabrics have different mildew resistance, so this is something you should definitely look into.

3) How frequently will you use your patio umbrella? If the answer is all the time, then make sure the fabric has color fade protection.

4) Think you’ll need to clean the umbrella frequently? Different fabrics hold up to this kind of treatment differently, so make sure you know before you buy.

Now that you have some idea of what you need, let’s take a brief look at the basic categories which are out there.

Olefin FabricsOlefin is a strong a durable synthetic fabric often used for patio umbrellas. It has good mildew and stain resistance and is easy to clean. The color fade resistance for this fabric is not as good as for others, and as such it’s only guaranteed for up to one year, typically. Because of this, though, Olefin is usually a cheaper choice. If you don’t use your patio umbrella often, then Olefin will do the job just fine.

Acrylic FabricsAcrylic is another synthetic material which is made from highly processed polyester. This has the effect of strengthening and smoothing the material, allowing these fabrics to last roughly 50% longer than other synthetics. This causes them to cost a bit more, but they’re still cheaper than the cream of the crop. Acrylic is a good solution for moderately frequent use or if you want to make a lasting investment without breaking the bank.

Sunbrella Brand FabricsSunbrella is a specific brand of patio umbrella fabric which is widely held as the best available. It’ll cost you a pretty penny, but it’s more than worth it. Tests on Sunbrella fabrics show that they only let a mere 2% of UV rays through, meaning it’s the equivalent of SPF 50 sun tan lotion. In addition, it’s got great mold and mildew resistance. The color is guaranteed to last for at least three years, likely more if you only use your umbrella on a seasonal basis. This material is highly recommended if you can afford to make the investment.

It Is Time To Buy The Best Garden Furniture

garden design

Atmosphere

Benches

Buy Furniture

Chaise Lounges

Clean Furniture

Dirt

Efficacy

Exterior Furniture

Furniture Selection

Garden Furnishings

Garden Umbrellas

High Quality Furniture

Parasols

Patio Furniture

Picnic Table

Shades Of Colors

Six Chairs

Wooden Chairs

Wooden Furniture

Wooden Garden Furniture
<guid

A couple or more pieces ofgarden furniture are perfect for this. Besides providing a placeto relax, it can also look very nice and compliment the style ofyour landscaping.

You’ll have plenty of furniture styles, colors, and types offurniture to choose from to fit your specific needs. It can fitwhat you need to use it for, as well as match the colors of yourgarden.

In general, gardens have natural themes. Because of this, furniture made of wood such as teak is very common. Wicker isanother natural looking option that is lightweight. Another nicelooking choice of materials is iron. It can be heavier though, and can retain heat in hot climates. That can make ituncomfortable to sit on in the summer.

As far as the type of furniture goes, a bench is very popular fora garden. They look very elegant and provide a place formultiple people to sit and enjoy the plants. As mentioned abovefor garden furniture in general, wood and iron are greatmaterials for benches. They both last a very long time outsidein the elements, and provide great looks. The wood blends intothe natural environment, whereas the iron adds a romantic, antique look.

Some alternatives to simple benches are benches that swing orbenches that wrap around a tree or bush. A swing can add anextra soothing quality, and the wrap around bench can save spaceand add interest to that area of the garden.

If your garden is small and there isn’t adequate room for abench, a garden chair can work well. Wood, wicker, and iron areall possibilities for chairs as well. Also, you can simply usepatio chairs in the variety of styles and colors that they areoffered in.

If you are looking for more than just a place to sit, and youwant all of your furniture to match well, you should look intopurchasing a garden furniture set. You will get multiple chairs,a table, and an umbrella for shade. This won’t be necessary ifyou’ll be enjoying your garden alone, but it is very helpful ifyou will be entertaining others in the garden. If having anentertainment in your area is important to you, make sure thatyou have the table in an area that can handle the extra foottraffic. Placing it in a mulched area or an open grassy areatends to work well for this.

Patio Umbrella Lights – Brightening Things For Outdoor Parties

garden design

Ac Power

Ambiance

Array

Batteries

Chandelier

Colors

Outdoor Parties

Patio Deck

Patio Lights

Patio Porch

Patio Umbrella Lights

Power Source

Several Different Types

Strand

Umbrellas
<guid

However, when you sit down to plan out exactly what it is you want or need, figuring out how to hang it will enable you to make the most of your purchase.

The first thing that you need to do is consider the style of patio umbrella lights that you want. This is done by simply thinking about or visualizing the mood that you want to create in your outdoor area, be that on a patio, porch or deck. The different types of lights will be able to help you to consider how to integrate them into the overall look. Usually, there are three types, stand, circular, and chandelier. Chandelier lights usually attach to the umbrella pole, and hold several different types of lights out from the middle. They usually look classier and more elegant with deeper colors and wooden fixtures. Circular pole patio umbrella lights on the other hand, will hold many different lights, are easy to install and can be suited to almost any mood, depending on the style you want, while strand lights hang from the edges of the patio umbrella, and have a brighter, cheerier ambiance. They usually plug into a wall adapter, rather than using batteries, as well. Most patio umbrella lights will be battery powered, however, those which require much longer lasting and brighter light may use AC power, as well. Planning what sort of power source you are working with is generally a good idea- just because the lights you want are corded, doesn’t mean you have to count them out. Simply see if there may not be some safe ways of hiding the cords and you’re set.

Taking into account the event you’re hosting, or the mood you want to set, this is usually the next step. If you are using chandelier lights, for instant, placing the light about halfway down the pole is usually best for a closer, more warm feel, whereas, spreading out strand lights between several umbrellas is usually best. For different parties with a more tropical feel, it’s always a good idea to place the lights higher up, for a lighthearted more cheerful ambiance. Many people compliment all sorts of patio umbrella lights with white holiday lighting strings, or coordinating colors draped along the fences nearby, walkways, or patio rails. It’s also always best to tie it all together with tables that match, different decorations and other accessories that can bring it all together for you, regardless of the gathering.

Choosing complimentary side lighting is always a good idea, if you’re doing a more tropical themed party, tiki torches are a great beach themed addition to patio umbrella lights as well. No matter what sort of lighting you choose, properly accessorizing will ensure that your party, gathering or just outdoor space carries exactly the mood that you want to create.

Home And Garden Party – 5 New Party Ideas, Themes

garden design

Elegant Women

Garden Parties

Glass Bowls

Having A Wonderful Time

Home And Garden Party

Hostesses

Intimate Gatherings

Local Park

Mother Daughter

Napkin Rings

Number Of Guests

Outdoor Furniture

Party Bookings

Party Consultant

Party Ideas

Place Settings

Planning A Garden

Porcelain Cups

Sipping Tea

Tea Party
<guid

For the hostess, having a printed list with ideas, themes and even recipes can take a big part of the stress off her shoulders, and make her more motivated and enthusiastic about the party. For you, the consultant, having a happy hostess means happier and more relaxed guests, and everyone having a wonderful time at the party. This also can translate into more sales for you.

Although a garden party may make you think of elegant women in large hats, sipping tea out of tiny porcelain cups, in reality it doesn’t require a home in the country with a large lawn, beautiful grounds and lots of outdoor furniture. Successful garden parties can happen on small patios in the city, in the backyard of the suburbs or even in a living room or dining room. In fact, some of the most successful garden parties don’t even happen in the hostess’s home – we’ve had successful garden parties at the local park, at a family member or neighbor’s home, and once, even on a mother-daughter camp-out!

Garden parties can range from the elegant to the casual: from large affairs to cozy, intimate gatherings. The most important thing when planning a garden party is to decide on the theme, and then use it to create the atmosphere you want.

Of course you’ll have to take into consideration the time of year, the time of day the party is being held, the number of guests expected and the location. But here are some fun themes that have resulted in successful parties with better-than-average sales and party bookings. Feel free to adapt them so that they work for you!

Tea Party: Get elegant with cloth tablecloths and napkins, fancy napkin rings and place settings. The centerpieces could be glass bowls, decanters or bottles filled with flowers, fruit or candles. Serve tea, finger sandwiches and elegant little desserts on stacked trays.Use flowers or potted plants if the party is on the patio, or set it up in the garden itself, if the time of year is right. Place your displays inside the house or around the outdoor area, and use the same tablecloths and elegant theme as the party. Light classical music, guitar music or new age would blend in beautifully.

Afternoon Delight: Set up a whimsical party with beach umbrellas or patio tables and umbrellas, a free-standing hammock, and drag out the kids’ plastic pool to fill with sand and use it to hold your outdoor display items. Serve icy margaritas or delicious mimosas with a little Jimmy Buffet in the background, and make sure your games are fun and that guests feel relaxed and at ease. Crackers, cheese and fruit make simple refreshments.

Bridal Shower: Although this idea is a little unusual, it’s actually a good marketing campaign and has been a surprising success. In your next marketing campaign – aimed at brides and maids (or matrons) of honor, mention that you hold garden party bridal showers. The guests get together, laugh, talk, eat and play games, just like at a regular bridal shower, but the bride can register for the gifts that she’d like for her new home, and guests can choose from her list, as well as picking up a little something for themselves. Themes can vary, but some nice touches include: stringing fairy lights and hurricane lanterns around the garden or patio (especially if the party is being held at night), using ribbons, lace and the bride’s wedding colors. Refreshments can be anything from a light buffet using fresh fruits and vegetables of the season (for spring and summer) to soups and a selection of elegant appetizers in the fall and winter months.

Bloom Where you’re Planted: This party is all about celebrating life and enjoying who you are. Table decorations can be tiny terra cotta pots with tea lights in them. You can use flower seed packets as place cards (write the guests’ names on the packets). Set up baskets or pots of flowers and plants around the tables. Use a wheelbarrow or garden cart for displays or refreshments, and if you have a trellis or standing metal archway, it makes a lovely setting for your display. Keep the games light and upbeat and the general theme about gratitude and how wonderful it is that we are all unique and different as flowers in a garden. Refreshments should be kept light – ice tea, lemon-aide or fruit smoothies and finger sandwiches with cookies or a variety of desserts works well.

Excellent Bonsai for Beginners – The Hawaiian Umbrella Tree

garden design

Bonsai Tree

Bonsai Trees

Dense Canopy

Dry Areas

Dwarf Schefflera

Evergreen Shrub

Facing Window

Fluorescent Lighting

Green Leaves

High Humidity

Humidity Conditions

Humidity Tray

Indirect Lighting

Indoor Location

Lighting Conditions

Pebbles

Plantings

Schefflera Arboricola

Umbrella Tree

Usda Zones
<guid

As such, it can be easily trained into bonsai form. The roots respond well to pruning and it is not as picky about watering as many other bonsai trees. As it is an evergreen, it has dark green leaves year round that fan out into an umbrella form which makes it ideal for creating a bonsai style needing a dense canopy. Often times they are used in forest plantings.

What makes the Schefflera Arboricola a good bonsai for beginners?

The hawaiian umbrella tree has many characteristics that make it an excellent choice for beginners. First, it can grow well in lower lighting conditions. Most beginners try to keep their trees indoors. This is one of the trees that actually do well in indoor conditions. They do best in USDA zones 9-11 so most people who live north of Florida, Texas, and California keep them indoors year round without any issues. Of course, they will do their best if the indoor location is exposed to indirect lighting from an east or west facing window or in rooms with fluorescent lighting on for long portions of the day.

Second, schefflera are not very picky about watering conditions. Incorrect watering is how most beginners end up killing their bonsai trees. These trees are pretty forgiving as long as one does not allow the soil to dry out completely. It is good about letting the owner know if it is being overwatered or underwatered. The hawaiian umbrella’s leaves will turn black if it is being overwatered or start to curl at the ends if it is being underwatered.

Additionally, they do appreciate high humidity conditions. Indoor conditions tend to be very dry. To increase the humidity around the bonsai it is recommended you place the pot on top of a humidity tray filled with pebbles and water. The evaporating water humidifies the surrounding air. Avoid abnormally dry areas near heaters, furnaces, and fireplaces.

Last, this tree is not picky about the soil you pot it in. Any free draining soil will work fine with this tree whereas with other bonsai species they can be very picky. They are tolerant of clay, sand, and loamy soils. Schefflera do prefer a slightly alkaline soil so adding a little lime in the soil mix can adjust the pH more towards alkaline if so desired.

Styling Considerations

It can be difficult to train this tree into any form other than something with a broad crown similar to a banyan fig. They are not ideal for training into traditional Japanese forms, but they can be made into informal uprights. Most often they are trained into multiple trunk or forest groups. One of their interesting characteristics are their aerial banyan roots that they send down from lower branches. These aerial roots are great when trying root over rock styles. To encourage branching one can pinch stems back. Also, ideally try to repot younger trees every one to two years in the spring. You can aggressively root prune if necessary at that time.

Watering

As mentioned, never let the soil dry out completely. Additionally, never water by a schedule. Instead, water when you notice the soil beginning to dry out. When it is time to water, thoroughly soak the soil by watering from above until the water begins to come out of the pot’s drain holes. You may notice the tree will need less water in the winter months.

Final Indoor Considerations

The hawaiian umbrella tree is very resistant to pests and diseases outdoors, but one needs to be on the lookout for pests which it has no predators against indoors if grown there. Be watchful for scale, spider mites, and mealy bugs when this tree is grown indoors. Additionally, all parts of this tree are poisonous so keep this tree away from children, pets, and your skin.

Garden pattern competitions from BBC Gardeners’ World Live

balcony garden

Aspiring Talent

Bbc Gardeners World

Bbc Live

Bbc World

Closing Date

Conceptual Designs

Construction Materials

Creative Garden

Design Competitions

Gardeners World

Keen Amateur

Keen Eye

Open Competition

Professional Background

Royal Horticultural Society

Showcase Your Talents

Spectacular Garden

Sturgeon

Tools And Materials

Ultimate Competition
<guid

Not much on traveling but you will be full of ideas on how to turn the outdoor area of your own home into your own private paradise. You will also learn a few tips on how to achieve comfort and be fully relaxed. Reading this article will get you acquainted with patio umbrellas, outdoor heaters and furniture.

There is absolutely no way one can be comfortable in the outdoor are without having some proper outdoor patio furniture. Go for strong and durable materials such teak that will be able to withstand the harsh outdoor environment. Find the nearest outdoor furniture store and you will be amazed at the many choice they can provide you and not just those made from teak. Worry that your small garden area won’t be able to accommodate huge outdoor patio furniture? Then go for simpler type that probably consists of simple garden table and chairs. Getting foldable ones will also solve your space issues. Don’t forget to add reclining chairs to your shopping list if you plan on taking afternoon naps in your backyard.

Another item you should seriously think about getting for your garden is the patio umbrella. Patio umbrellas come in many shapes, colors and sizes and have become a part of a garden decor. The main function of a patio umbrella is of course o provide shelter and shade from the harmful sun rays and the rain. You don’t have to worry about spending too much time under the sun or dozing off under one and suddenly waking up to pouring rain. Your patio umbrella will become your alliance in these situations.

To top it all, you may even consider getting outdoor heaters for your lovely compound. These can generate heat and provide you and your loved ones with adequate warmth should the weather turn cold or when it is dark and you still want to spend a few more moments out in the chilly night air gazing at the stars. There are two kinds of outdoor heaters that you can choose from. One of them runs on gas while the other runs directly on electricity. The electricity one is of course more convenient than the former one. However, it may be more expensive than the other not only in terms of the product itself but also in the process of using it as electricity rates are higher compare to just using gas. But if you have young children who are always running around your house compound, it would be advisable that you get an electric outdoor heater as it is easier to operate around children.

All in all, it is not that difficult to transform the outdoor of your home into a paradise for you, your loved ones, relatives and friends to hang around and relax. It seems that all you need to do is basically to furnished your patio, garden, yard or terrace with either patio furniture or teak furniture and add some patio umbrellas around together to keep the sun at bay as well as outdoor heaters to give everyone some warmth when it is cold. With these to add to the outside of your home, you can be sure that your house’s exterior will be as fully utilize as the interior. Everyone will be just as willing to spend their time outside as they do inside. You may even have meals outside if the weather so permits it. It will definitely make a change from having meals after meals indoors.

Incoming search terms:

<a

The benefits to using solar powered garden lights are pretty obvious but you also need to think about the drawbacks, as well as plan where you want to use them, what purpose you want them to serve, their quality, and cost.

Benefits

The first benefit to using solar garden lights is that there is no energy cost because they use solar power to charge the batteries during the day and run off the batteries at night.

The second benefit is that since they don’t require electricity there is no wiring needed. This makes them easy to install anywhere you want light, and easy to move if you want to move things around later.

Drawbacks

Solar garden lights can be a little more expensive to buy than their electric counterpart, especially the higher quality lights.

Main complaints are that they don’t shine as bright or last as long as electric lights.

The battery doesn’t charge on cloudy days and they can’t be used in shady areas.

Different Ways To Use Solar Garden Lights In Landscape Lighting

Solar accent lights – Used mainly for accenting garden features with a softer glow such as special plants, fountains, or along building foundations.

Solar garden path lights – They shine brighter than accent lights and does as the name suggests…lights paths and sidewalks. There are many different styles to choose from…stake-style or hook-style are most common, but there are also some that can be built into the path itself in brick, wood or stone design.

Solar lamp posts – These stand taller and are great for lining a driveway or lighting a walkway. Classic Victorian lamp posts create an old-fashioned romantic atmosphere, but there are many designs to choose from to accent your home perfectly.

Solar floating pond lights – Show off your water feature at night by creating a beautiful glow in your pond or pool.

Solar shed lights & solar umbrellas – Solar shed lights are easy to install and provide convenient lighting in storage sheds, car ports, boat docks and more. Solar umbrellas are perfect if you enjoy sitting outside in the cooler night time hours on warm summer days, and are great for both back yard entertaining and bistros.

Solar garden decorations & solar string lights – Garden stakes and solar fountains, solar statues, solar wind chimes, and solar tree decorations come in every shape and size. Solar string lights can be used for Christmas or used all year round to light up your home and garden.

Location

Solar garden lights require 8-16 hours of full sun to completely charge the batteries for best performance. Unless you plan to move the lights into a location with sun every day or come up with a creative way to recharge the batteries you need to install the solar garden lights in a sunny area.

Quality vs. Cost

There are different quality solar garden lights on the market, the better the quality the higher the cost. Be aware that better quality lights will shine brighter and last longer than the less-expensive lights. If you are buying solar garden lights that you want to last a while you will be happier with the results if you buy a quality product.

These are just a few basic things to think about when buying solar garden lights. Other things to consider are what materials the panel-housing and solar panel cover is made from and why it’s important, waterproofing, batteries, and more.

Incoming search terms:

<a
