French Garden Design – A Formal Approach to Gardening

The parterre or knot garden is integral to this style of garden design and this is the main element of French garden design which has been kept and used into the 20th and 21st century. The gardens of the Palace of Versailles and the gardens of the Chateau of Villandry are two of the best examples of the French Garden Design style in France.
